Intake sessions can be with or without guardian. Moving forward teen sessions are Indvidual. Youth 13 years old and up can have individual sessions, without their guardian present.
According to Washington law, a minor who is 13 years old or older may initiate an evaluation a treatment. RCW 71.34

You need both independence and dependence—not one or the other. Your need to be alone and to pursue your individual goals must be balanced with your need to be with others, and when necessary, to request help.
When a teen seeks counseling, it is important that they feel able to trust their counselor, so they can speak freely and openly about what is troubling them. The assurance that their feelings, thoughts and stories can be entrusted to the counselor may allow for deeper exploration of areas of experiencing which feel particularly difficult or shameful. This safety helps to build relational depth and facilitates the work of therapy.
